Despite there being a reduction in the number of public firework displays this year, private displays will undoubtedly still cause distress and anxiety to thousands of animals throughout the country.

Firework phobia is a treatable condition and animals don't have to suffer such misery every year. Seek advice from your vet who will, if necessary, be able to refer you to a professional clinical animal behaviourist.

It isn't only domestic pets that suffer due to firework displays. Wildlife and farm animals can be startled and injure themselves as a result. Hedgehogs are at serious risk of being burnt alive after making their homes in bonfires. Always check for little critters before lighting.
