What is #DogKind?

#DogKind is an RSPCA campaign focusing on dogs who find it difficult to cope when separated from their owners. The term for this is ‘separation related behaviour’ or SRB for short. Research shows that more than 8 in 10 dogs experience some form of SRB and a half of these won’t show any obvious signs that they are struggling, so it can be hard for owners to identify if there is a problem.

#DogKind aims to change public behaviour by:

  • Increasing public awareness and understanding about SRB
  • Increasing the number of people that would seek help for SRB

Half of dogs won’t show any signs so you may not know if your dog is struggling to cope alone - our #DogKind campaign will help you understand your dog better and find ways to treat and prevent them from feeling unhappy when you’re not there.

What should I do if my dog is struggling to be left alone?

If your dog is of one the 8 out of 10 dogs suffering from separation related behaviour, they're likely to be feeling distressed.

Thankfully, there are ways you can help your dog feel calmer and more relaxed (and prevent them from becoming distressed) when they're alone. From leaving a 'special' toy, to using a dog sitting service there are steps you can take to tackle separation related behaviour today.

How to treat SRB

Become a #DogKind champion by:

  • Promoting the campaign on your RSPCA and personal social media channels
  • Talking about the campaign to friends and family who have dogs but, as above, please don’t give advice on treatment but point people to the RSPCA website.
