News and events Latest news Gareth Update Gareth Update - 14th July 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we are sorry to tell you that unfortunately Gareth, the kitten we featured on an appeal earlier in the week, has passed away. After an x-ray and further examinations the vets recommended that Gareth’s leg was amputated. He went into surgery this morning but just wasn’t strong enough to make it through the anaesthetic. We can take solace in the warmth, kindness and care he was shown in the last few days and the knowledge that he passed peacefully. Thank you to everyone who donated to the appeal to help him. Any donations that were not spent on Gareth’s care will be put to incredibly good use helping the other animals currently in our care. What keeps the team going on these sad days are the happier outcomes. Following an emergency operation a couple of weeks ago Coco, one of the dogs currently in our care, has given birth this week to 3 healthy pups. Original Post - 12th July 2021 Gareth was found this weekend by a member of public in our area. Concerned for his welfare they kept him overnight and then rang the RSPCA Inspectorate to get him the help he so desperately needs. Gareth has sustained an injury to his front left leg, although at present we don’t know how this has happened. He has gone straight through to the vets as it was clear he needed urgent care. The vets have assessed him and the wound is a severely infected open fracture. An x-ray is now being done to ascertain the severity of the fracture but it is looking very likely that Gareth will need his leg amputating. Either way Gareth is going to need a lot of veterinary treatment and care from our Team to get him back on the path to good health.
